
1824 Royal Charter
The Royal Asiatic Society received its Charter of Incorporation from King George IV on the 11th August 1824 for ‘the investigation of subjects, connected with, and for the encouragement of Science, Literature, and the Arts, in relation to Asia’. 1987 Supplemental Charter
At the Society’s request, a Supplemental Charter was granted to the Society on 11th November 1987 to modify the wordings of the 1824 Charter. The text of the Supplemental Charter is reproduced in the below image:
